ARE YOU AN EMPATH? FIND OUT HOW IT CAN BE YOUR SUPERPOWER!

IS YOUR SENSITIVITY A SUPERPOWER OR A LIABILITY?

I totally understand how you feel when your emotions take over and you react to something that triggered you, but then you spiral into overthinking and while obsessing over it, you start to feel anxious and sad. And then you try to make things better, you overcompensate and you end up making things worse.

The fact is when you act while your emotions are running high, you’re not in a clear state of mind and you might say things that you’ll regret later. By starting sentences with ‘you did this’ or ‘you never do that’, the other person feels attacked, and if someone feels attacked, their natural response is being defensive or fighting back.

Instead, wait until you feel calm and in control of your emotions, sleep on it if you can, and then respond using sentences beginning with ‘I feel…’. This way you’re helping the other person understand how you feel without making it sound like a personal attack. For example you can say ‘I feel hurt when you say things like that’ or ‘I felt sad when I received that message’. Then clearly and politely explain your reasons. This way you’ll be able to start an honest conversation, talk things through and find a solution to the issue.

Being sensitive does not mean you over react. You feel everything deeply and that’s why it’s harder to take a step back from your emotions and respond just like the 80% of the population would expect you to. And if people tell you ‘stop overreacting’ or ‘don’t make such a fuss over it’, that will trigger you even more. It’s like telling someone who’s angry to “calm down”, it will trigger that person and will make them even angrier.

The key is to recognise what your triggers are so you’re not a bomb waiting to explode at any minute and surprise everyone around you because they can’t understand why you’re reacting this way.

Your sensitivity can be your superpower but you have to learn how to manage it.

Just like the superheroes in the movies when they discover they have a superpower, they are scared initially, they don’t know how to handle it and so their superpower controls them.

You have to control your sensitivity or it will control you!

Don’t be scared of your emotions. Feel all the feelings, don’t push them away, but then take control.

Once you’re in control of your emotions, rather than being run by them, you’ll become a powerful human being because you have abilities that the majority of the population doesn’t have.

You walk in a room, for example, and you can immediately pick up everyone’s emotions. And you can either absorb their emotions, or you can send your energy into the room and set a new tone for that interaction. You can change the vibe of the room and you can turn a negative interaction into a positive one. You always have a choice! And you can choose how you respond to the situations in your life.

This week I spoke to Danielle Collins, who is also an emotional empath, and we chatted about how our sensitivity is our superpower.

Danielle Collins is a world leading Face Yoga Expert and best selling author, and so we discussed the importance of self-care and having a healthy lifestyle as an Empath.

We talked about managing stress, mindfulness and intuition which is the compass that guides us through life. Can you hear your intuition? Do you question it or do you listen to it?

Intuition is your greatest superpower!
